Sept 2008

IDT commissioning team & ASP-ID5 beamline scientists successfully carry out beamline optics performance demonstration tests of the Microspectroscopy beamline @ Australian Synchrotron Project-Melbourne.

This was achieved two weeks earlier than contracted Practical completion date, a brief summary of tests results is given below:-

·          Wire scan results demonstrating a repeatable and highly stable 365nm x 660nm sigma focused spot size at the sample position.

SSA (50µm x 700µm with an rms deviation of 0.37µm over a 10 hour period (no top up on beam decay) was demonstrated -see SMKB data sheet Link

·          The cryo-cooled DCM 4-25keV - the DCM Energy Axis was rocked over the Cu K edge 115 times in 10 hours.  The RMS Deviation in edge position was 0.06 eV.

–see DCM data sheet Link

·          Ultra stable secondary source slit- Set slit gap and scan aperture across beam with single motor- Bi-directional repeatability is sub-micron in closed loop

see SSA data sheet Link

·          Quad diode BPM & fluorescent screen- see Quad diode data sheet Link

The nematode (roundworm) was chosen as an interesting test for the ID5 high resolution elemental mapping abilities.  Fantastic mapping data taken using the beamline

An interesting section of the worm shown above, was scanned with a 1um x 2um step size over a 7 hour period.
