Limiting, shaping and defining the beam from 3rd generation synchrotron sources is a non-trivial task, where power densities can be higher than 100W/mm^2 and total power loads can be >> 10kW into small areas.
► Restricting total power from the source by apertures & filters to maximums that do not compromise optical requirements, can reduce power handling overhead costs of all other beamline components downstream .
► Adjustable precision slits can shape the beam output necessary for final optical definition. These components must also often handle very high power densities.
