From Source to Sample....

From the moment the synchrotron source parameters have been even tentatively defined (and sometimes even before!) IDT can offer a comprehensive design service to ensure that the final delivered beamline matches the customer expectations for optimum performance at the experimental sample.

Fundamental calculations (rather than full raytrace) can often yield unexpected results in defining efficiencies and optimising early on.

 

FEA is an essential tool in assessing viability & even survivability in extreme thermal cases

Realistic calculations establishing boundary conditions are essential for credible FEA

 

Key beamline design services (illustrated on panels left and right) that IDT can offer are:

Conceptual Design reviews  (CDR) & Feasibility studies (FSR). These reviews look at overall requirements and current SR technology trends and match these against budget & performance specification.

CAD Layouts - 3D & 2D layouts of realistic sized components can determine whether the concept can fit within the known floor space and often tight neighbouring beamline space restrictions.

Optical raytracing - powerful tools that can offer a quantitative indication of photon flux performance at the sample. 

Bremstrahlung raytrace - It is important to define limits on mis-steer extremes early-on in order to properly define shielding size & fit

Vacuum calculations - determine level and distribution of pumping required - a key cost element. 

Finite Element  Analysis (FEA) - performance of optics can be greatly influenced by thermal performance. Properly applied & understood FEA can give great confidence in realistic performance.

X-ray Optical Raytracing

Bremstrahlung  radiation ray trace defines lead shielding dimensions
